Title: 'Til Death: Volume One
Series: 'Til Death #1
Author: Bella Jewel
 Release Date: November 25, 2014

Synopsis

They say there's a fine line between love and hate.

There is.

I married a douchebag.

I didn't know it at the time.

He came in like a handsome stranger and blew me off my feet.

I fell madly in love, like the naive girl I am.

Then he left me high and dry.

Turns out, I was nothing more than a business plan for billionaire playboy, Marcus Tandem.

He needed to be married in order to obtain his grandfathers business, and I was the poor victim in his path.

I believed in what we had, until the truth reared its ugly head.

I never meant anything to Marcus. Not a damned thing.

With my world spinning on its axis, the girl I once was has long since died.

Instead he left me as this empty, emotionless shell.

I may have made a vow before God to love and cherish him ‘Til Death do we part, but it’s time for me to give back to Marcus, exactly what he gave me.

He has to pay.

And pay he will.

Review

Marcus Tandem is a rich player with a problem. To keep the company that he has devoted his life to he has to settle down and get married. His grandfather willed him the company, but only if he can get married in a year and stay married for at least two. Marcus can't fathom the idea of sharing his life with anyone, let alone a woman. He takes pride in the fact that he sleeps around, and has only slept with one woman more than once.

Katia is a naive woman working her rear off to take care of an ailing mother. Her path crosses Marcus's quite by accident; they bump into one another in a club and her friend (whom works for him) introduce them. Once they talk Marcus realizes that she is the perfect prey for his plan. This is where the story got hard to read for me.

Their relationship is one that I consider emotionally abusive. He connives until she falls in love with him so he can get her to marry him. He has no feeling for her whatsoever and orders her around like she is his property. He knows how much she adores him and only gives her affection to suit him, down to not allowing her to sleep in his bed. She follows him around like a puppy begging for scraps of his attention so she can keep convincing herself he cares. It is absolutely maddening to read. You want to grab her and shake her. It almost comes off like ""well, this relationship is toxic but we have amazing sex so it is okay!"" At every turn he is manipulative.

Toward the very end it seems as if he may actually be starting to care about her but at that point I hated him and their relationship so much I just wanted him to go away.

The book is well written, and you really get a feel for the characters. I think that is why I got so angry at Katia's plight. I am sure the author didn't mean it (and this could just be my own hang ups talking so take it with a grain of salt) but at times I felt like it was glorifying this emotionally abusive relationship. One moment she is on cloud nine because he paid attention to her, the next she is crying because he ignores her, the next she forgives him after they have sex. It is emotionally exhausting. For me there is nothing romantic about this story.
